The Data Protection Office and International Cooperation

The Data Protection Office received an ‘observer’ status from the Global Privacy Assembly (“GPA”) in 2021. The GPA is a forum for privacy and data protection authorities that aims to disseminate knowledge, help authorities perform their mandates effectively, provide international leadership, connect, support, and enable authorities to protect and promote privacy and data protection.

In early 2022, the Data Protection Office was granted membership in the Global Privacy Enforcement Network (“GPEN”). This informal network looks to share best practices on enforcement priorities and supports joint enforcement initiatives and awareness campaigns.

International cooperation and membership of these bodies help ensure that data protection within the QFC is in line and up to date with international best practice and approach.
